The Binns Track video from the Savannah to the Simpson Desert

North to south through the Northern Territory, the Binns Track is a more scenic alternative to the Stuart Highway

The Binns Track, named after Bill Binns, is an alternative route to the Stuart Highway. This route links Mt Dare, on the edge of the Simpson Desert with Timber Creek in the Top End. The track includes Gregory National Park, the amazing Devils Marbles, Tennant Creek and the old telegraph station nearby. You can also visit the Davenport Ranges, the ruins and mining remains at Arltunga Historic Goldfields, Alice Springs and Old Andado. The Binns Track features some of the Northern Territory’s best 4-wheel drive tracks. 

Our Binns Track video features all of the above highlights. The terrain of the Track is diverse with start and finish either in the desert or the tropical north, depending which way you go. The Binns Track video trip began in the tropics at Timber Creek. Even though it was July, a late wet season had closed many of the northern tracks. But there was still plenty to see and explore around Timber Creek and Gregory National Park.

We completed our Binns Track journey at Mt Dare so it was natural to head home across the Simpson Desert. Again, rain had fallen on the eastern side of the desert and Eyre Creek had flooded. This was an unexpected bonus as we completed the detour to the safe crossing point of the usually dry creek. The video also includes the adventures of this Simpson Desert crossing too.
