Description
Make Trax 4WD Victoria Atlas describes 33 of the best 4WD destinations and tours from across the state.
From the northern desert country to shorter treks just out of Melbourne, there is no limit to the possibilities. Travel to the rainforests of far east Gippsland, explore the high country and find great camping locations throughout the State.
With each trek graded, travellers choose a tour to match their experience and their vehicle’s capability. Camping details, together with practical notes, encourage you to plan your own itinerary, with one eye on the information presented here and another on making the trek a personal adventure.
Four chapters separate the 33 treks: Melbourne; High Country; Western Victoria; and East Gippsland. Then for each trek there are two information boxes – the Basic Checklist and a Track Snapshot. The tick box format of the Basic Checklist shows if the trek is suitable for all-wheel drive vehicle or trailers. The Checklist also points out water crossings or steep climbs.
The Track Snapshot contains more details about each trek including kilometres to be travelled and the best time of year to go. You will also find major camping sites available, where to get fuel and supplies and the best map for the area here.
The text gives all directions as well as points of interest you might find along the way. A detailed map shows all roads with the trek route highlighted, plus rivers, creeks and camping spots.
This is a reprinted version of the 4WD Victoria Atlas, part of the Make Trax series. John and Anne helped with checking and some corrections. The 4WD Victoria Atlas is published by Australian Fishing Network.
